Liverpool and Portugal winger Diogo Jota, aged 28, has tragically died in a car accident in the Spanish region of Zamora, according to multiple reports. The accident occurred overnight on the A-52 highway in Sanabria when the vehicle Jota was traveling in veered off the road and caught fire.
Jota’s brother, Andre Silva, 26, who was also in the car and a professional footballer in Portugal’s second division, sadly lost his life in the crash as well. This devastating incident has shocked the football community worldwide.
Just weeks before the accident, Jota married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, with whom he shared three children. The Liverpool forward was a key player in Liverpool’s 2024-25 Premier League-winning campaign, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 26 appearances. He also contributed to Portugal’s recent Nations League victory.
